Happy Holidays! We have entered the season of giving.
Many of us look forward all year to this season. Holidays will be celebrated this month such as Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanza. These holidays can bring to mind pleasant memories from the past as we look forward to making new ones each year. For some, there are family gatherings to attend, yummy food to eat, and traditions we do each year. We may purchase or make gifts in an effort to find the perfect one for our co-workers, friends and family.
Gifts do not always look the way we traditionally think, however. Providing housing assistance is a gift of a safe haven for someone who is homeless or at the risk of losing their housing. Helping someone leave a domestic violence situation is a gift of hope for a new future. Helping someone keep their utilities on is a gift of warmth and light. Giving support and supplies to a family who has a baby is a gift of a better future. Offering shoe vouchers for a child is a gift of toasty toes on a rainy day. Adopting a family or senior in need and giving them blankets, socks or food is a gift of feeling cared for.
Here at HRN, we work to help those in need during the holiday season like in the examples above. We also work to provide these gifts year-round, not just during the holiday season. In order to provide the gifts for individuals and families who need them, it takes funding. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we rely on grants and financial gifts to do the work and provide what is needed for individuals and families. As an example, in the past, we have received a financial gift to purchase coats for children. That was a onetime funding gift. There are times when we do not have the funding needed to cover all of a client’s needs. We regularly do not have funding for needs such as clothing, blankets, utility assistance, or propane.
We hope that as you make your way through this holiday season it is a wonderful time with family and friends. We would be honored to be on your holiday gift-giving list. Your gift to HRN is a gift to help those in your community. To make a onetime or recurring donation, please visit our Donation page. Thank you.
