Our Children's Services staff have been busy over the summer working hard to deliver services to our families!
In May and June childcare staff put together HRN’s first ever Drive Thru Parent Café’s. At our Main Office in Weaverville, parents were able to pick up dinner, a gallon of milk and dessert. All families received a resource bag with a new book for each child in the family, puzzles, games, art supplies and craft activities. May resource bags included a fun family game, watercolors, and sticker sheets as well as important information on Hot Car Safety. June resource bags were packed for summer with sprinklers, bubbles and hula-hoops as well as tips on cooking with your family. Our Lewiston Café was supported by the Lewiston Moose Lodge. The Moose provided hot fresh meals and homemade desserts for May and June with Fried Chicken and Corn Beef Dinners.
Summer also means the Weaverville All Summer Program (WASP) was buzzing with activity. Located on the Weaverville Elementary School campus, the WASP program began with lowered attendance due to COVID-19 Social Distancing but was able to expand and meet the childcare needs of many local families. Days were packed with field trips to the park and playground as well as fun short hikes on the Weaver Basin Trails. Once a week the entire group headed for the pool to cool off and have some fun. Fun Fridays were always a hit with popcorn and movie afternoons and great art projects. Students enrolled in WASP had a great summer and we look forward to seeing many of them again next year.
August signals the beginning of preschool for many students. Our Alps View State Preschool and Lewiston State Preschool opened on August 24. Staff have a great year planned for these preschool students and were happy to welcome back many returning families.
